How to Size Your Dog House
Measure your dog's shoulder height and head height . For warm climates, the inside dimensions of the dog house can be as tall as his head or even taller. More room is cooler. The width of the house should be as wide a he is tall at the shoulder if possible.
For colder climates, most people purchase a dog house that is too large for their dog to snuggle and keep warm. Too much inside space is hard to heat. Dog houses in cooler climates should be only as tall as his head. Some can be even shorter as long as the width is as wide as his shoulder height.
Don't worry about the height of the door. Any house with adequate height in dimensions will have a door that is high enough for him to use.
