POLYOX Organic Material Oxidizer/Water Conditioner/Algae Controller provides superior water quality and assists in preventing growth of various cyanobacteria (commonly called red or blue green slime algae) by simply removing their food source.
Kent Marine Kent Marine Polyox

It will oxidize leftover food and dissolved and suspended organic matter. This will increase the water quality and provide a better environment for your fish and invertebrates! Use when water quality suffers due to heavy bio-loading.

  • Instantly begins to oxidize dissolved and suspended organics
  • Assists in preventing red or blue-green slime algae
  • Returns water to a natural state!
  • For Fresh & Marine Systems, fish-only and reef tanks
  • Does not contain any algaecide.
  • 8oz treats up to 11000gal

Considerations for use:
Poly Ox must not be used on systems less than 30 days old or immediately after major water changes (>30%). There must be enough organic matter either dissolved or suspended in the water to necessitate treatment. Do not use with chelated copper medications particularly Copper Power brand!

The marine method is completely safe for invertebrates and marine fish. Red velvet and other true algae will not be affected by Poly•Ox. Continue running skimmers. Do not use with ozone, and wait 1 week after ozone use to apply. If you have a redox meter, do not exceed 460 mv! It is recommended that you suspend carbon or resin filtration during use. A large partial water change and a fresh charge of Kent Marine Reef Carbon is recommended at the termination of treatment. After carbon use, apply the appropriate Kent Essential trace mineral for your system.

Directions:
First Read Considerations for use below! Freshwater: Add one dose only at 1 teaspoon (1 capful or 5 ml) to 4 teaspoons per 10 gallons (40 liters) of system capacity depending on bio-load. Can be repeated at 7 day intervals. Marine: (reefs and fish-only systems): Add one dose in the morning and one dose in the evening of 3 drops (use an eye dropper) per 10 gallons (40 liters) of system capacity for up to 10 days [this is equivalent to 1/4 teaspoon (1/4 capful or 1.25 ml) in a 60 gallon tank, twice a day]. Carefully observe inhabitants each time. If invertebrates close up at all, then half the dosage and use longer if necessary. DO NOT EVER OVERDOSE! Product can be squirted, slowly, on affected areas using a plastic syringe, and this is sometimes faster and more effective. This method also doses the entire tank, as well. Do not use again until time to dose again and do not exceed the above recommended dosages overall.

To control the toxic organic nitrogenous compounds of ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate and other toxic organics that build up in aquariums and ponds from the excretion of body wastes by fishes, invertebrates, bacteria and other aquatic organisms
Amquel Plus Instant Water De-toxifier
Protects aquarium and pond fishes and invertebrates by quickly eliminating (actually detoxifying) the harmful components of the biological nitrogen cycle - ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates without slowing the nitrogen cycle or interfering with the beneficial bacteria involved, or depriving these bacteria of their food. (AmQuel Plus does not interfere with the nitrogen biological cycle -- it simply makes nontoxic what is normally dangerously toxic to fish and aquatic invertebrates at every step of the cycle.)

In overcrowded aquariums and ponds where waste products from the fishes, etc., quickly collect, it can also rapidly detoxify toxic organics that accumulate in the aquarium and pond water and are a problem as the water ages, lessening the need for water changes.

Many larger freshwater and saltwater aquarium fishes release pheromones to establish territoriality and repel other fishes. This is particularly true in fresh water for cichlids and plectognath fishes (triggers, filefish, puffers, boxfish) in salt water. Amquel Plus also detoxifies these noxious pheromones. This is also important for reducing the frequency of needed water changes.

    AmQuel Plus Benefits:
  • Easy to use
  • Equally effective in fresh and salt water
  • Does not affect the beneficial bacteria of the biological nitrogen cycle.
  • AmQuel+ is compatible with all water conditioners and all Kordon medications and other medications on which it has been tested, and with all aquatic life - including live rock and reef tank inhabitants.
  • Does not affect pH (acidity and alkalinity)
  • Does not discolor the water
  • AmQuel+ has a long indefinite shelf life expected to be many years.
The recommended dose for AmQuel Plus is 1 teaspoon (which equals 5 ml) for each 10 gallons of water to be treated. This dose will instantly break the bond between chlorine and ammonia found in chloramines, then remove the chlorine, remove at least 1.2 ppm of ammonia, at least 2 ppm of nitrite, and at least 13 ppm of nitrate as well as remove many other toxic nitrogen compounds. All this is accomplished in a single dose.

Nitrates indicates a build-up of fish waste and organic compounds
Nitrate Test Kit For Fresh & Saltwater
aquarium Pharmaceuticals
Measures nitrate levels in both fresh & saltwater aquariums. Tests nitrate levels from 0 to 160 ppm. 90 tests per kit.

The Science of Nitrate

Nitrate (NO3-) is produced in the aquarium by the beneficial bacteria in the biological filter, which convert toxic ammonia and nitrite into nitrate. Some tap water sources also contain nitrate. Nitrate is not considered toxic to freshwater tropical fish. Some fish breeders and collectors of sensitive species, however, are concerned with nitrate build-up because a high nitrate level indicates a build-up of fish waste and organic compounds, resulting in poor water quality and contributing to the likelihood of fish disease

The level of nitrate acceptable to fish and invertebrates is a subject of much debate. All agree that "lower is better". A nitrate level of 40 ppm (mg/L) or less is recommended for freshwater aquariums. Many marine aquarists prefer to keep nitrate levels as low as possible, especially when keeping invertebrates.

Partial water changes reduce nitrates. Other rechargeable filtration material is also available.

Detect hardness problems before they affect your pH or your fish
Gh (general Hardness) & Kh (carbonate Hardness) Test Kit
aquarium Pharmaceuticals
Tests tap water and freshwater aquariums for general hardness (GH) and carbonate hardness (KH). Helps detect stress on fish caused by rapid pH shifts, which result from low KH levels and helps aquarists duplicate the natural habitat of their fish.

The Science of "Water Hardness"

General Hardness or GH is the measure of calcium (Ca++) and magnesium ions (Mg++) dissolved in water.

Water with a GH will contain a lot of calcium and/or magnesium. This is great if you are keeping African cichlids or other fish that like hard water. While excessive GH is not dangerous to tropical fish, many species come from water with a GH level of 35-ppm to 90-ppm (2-5° dGH). Most aquatic plants also prefer a GH level of 35-ppm to 90-ppm (2-5° dGH). Excess GH also contributes to white scale build-up on the aquarium lid and light fixture. As aquarium water evaporates calcium and magnesium (and other minerals) are left in the water causing GH to rise over time. Lowering GH (softening) has no effect on pH.

Carbonate Hardness, also known as KH, refers to the concentration of bicarbonate (HCO3-) and carbonate (CO3--) dissolved in water. KH is important in relation to pH. KH, also known as alkalinity or buffering capacity directly affects the ease of making pH adjustments. In freshwater a high KH level makes lowering the pH very difficult. Each time a pH adjuster is added some of the KH is "neutralized". Each consecutive dose reduces the buffering capacity (KH) of the water. The pH will not go down, however, until the "breakpoint" is reached. When the breakpoint is reached the KH is sufficiently reduced to allow the pH to go down. This is why it may take several doses of aquarium pH adjusters to successfully lower the pH. Adjusting the pH is much easier after the KH has been reduced.

Maintaining the pH once adjusted can be difficult with tap water having a high KH level. Every time tap water is added more KH is added to the aquarium. This shifts the water chemistry toward a higher pH level. Additionally, when water evaporates, it leaves all the hardness minerals in the aquarium. Some aquarists use distilled water to replace evaporated water. (Other kinds of bottled water like spring water are usually high in minerals and will increase water hardness.)The best way to manage water hardness levels is the Tap Water Filter. The Tap Water Filter will remove all minerals and pollutants from tap water, permitting easy adjustment of pH and water hardness.

The pH of some synthetic marine salts stabilize below or above the recommended 8.2 to 8.4 pH range. Even though the KH is acceptable, the pH may not be right for the aquarium.

Water with very low KH may experience wide fluctuations in pH because the buffering capacity is low and small changes make big swings. A high KH level indicates that the pH will be very stable. High KH is almost always associated with a high pH.

Ammonia, constantly released into the aquarium, is the number one killer of tropical fish.
Ammonia Fresh & Saltwater Test Kit
aquarium Pharmaceuticals
Fast, easy and accurate, this test kit measures ammonia levels from 0 to 7 ppm.Uses improved salicylate instead of nessler reagent (which can give false readings). Test development time of only 5 minutes. 130 tests. Good for both saltwater and freshwater tests.

The Science of Ammonia

Tropical fish continually release ammonia (NH3) directly into the aquarium through their gills, urine, and solid waste. Uneaten food and other decaying organic matter also add ammonia to the water. High levels of ammonia quickly lead to fish death. Even trace amounts stress fish, suppressing their immune system and thereby increasing the likelihood of disease outbreaks and subsequent fish loss.

A new freshwater aquarium will not immediately have the right balance of bacteria, and ammonia will build up. It may surge to 6 ppm (mg/L) or more, and then fall rapidly as the biological filter becomes established. The ammonia will be converted to nitrite (also toxic), then to nitrate. This process may take several weeks. In an established aquarium, the ammonia level should always remain at 0 ppm (mg/L). However, as with any natural process, imbalances can occur.. Over feeding and keeping too many fish in the aquarium will also cause an ammonia problem.

NovAqua Plus provides multiple protective colloid coatings on the fish's body to replace or reinforce the natural slime coating that is essential to counteract injury, infection, and adverse environmental exposure. These organic polymers effectively shield wounds on fish, prevent the loss of internal fluids and electrolytes, and protect fish from external toxins and pathogens. ...
Novaqua Plus Aquarium Water Treatment
NovAqua Plus is the most effective of the tap water conditioners for benefiting aquatic life. NovAqua Plus is a unique liquid combination of electrolytes, inorganic salts, buffering system, reducing agents (dechlorinators), synthetic polymers, vitamins, product stabilizers, Edetates for heavy metals removal, and organic herbal extracts containing polysaccharides, alkylamides, and phenolics -- all of which variously produce highly desirable results in freshwater and marine systems for keeping fishes, invertebrates and plants alive and healthy.

The skin of fishes and many aquatic invertebrates is naturally fragile. It is covered by a protective slime coating that helps keep harmful bacteria and viruses away and aids the animals in their swimming ability by reducing surface friction. Any lessening of the slime coating, such as by abrasion and wounds can allow harmful pathogens to enter the skin. Fishes and invertebrates can sense when their slime coating is lessened or missing, and this can be very stressful to them. Fish being introduced to aquariums or ponds, or being transported, are particularly prone to losing natural slime and needing slime replacement.

NovAqua Plus neutralizes chlorine and the full toxic effect of chloramines
  • Chlorine is used in just about all municipal water supplies, for which the US EPA (Environmental Protection Agency recommends up to 4 ppm chlorine.
  • Chloramines in municipal water supplies are a very serious problem for aquarists and pond keepers. Chloramines are a combination of chlorine and ammonia that together make a chemical compound that is much more stable and highly toxic to viruses and bacteria than either is alone. Chloramines are also very toxic to fishes and aquatic invertebrates.
  • Over 50% of all municipalities in the U.S. now have chloramines added to the water supply, and the number rises every month. The American Water Works Association now strongly recommends that municipal water suppliers add chloramines to their water supply, because of increasing amounts of pathogens in water sources due to water pollution. Chloramines are lethal to all water-breathng aquatic animals. It is becoming essential that aquarists and pond keepers use a chloramine remover in all water that they take from the tap for their fishes and aquatic invertebrates.
  • NovAqua Plus breaks the chloramines apart, exposing the chlorine. In whatever form, NovAqua Plus neutralizes up to 6.0 ppm of chlorine (free and combined as chloramines), over twice the amount that regular NovAqua removes. What NovAqua Plus does not do is take out the ammonia that comes in the chloramines. This should be done by using Kordon's AmQuel Plus (or original AmQuel) with NovAqua Plus.
  • EPA Guidelines set a maximum allowed level of chlorine of 4 ppm in public water supplies. Most water suppliers target 2-3 ppm chlorine. Note that 4 ppm of chlorine is actually about 5.8 ppm chloramine. (The chlorine is 69% of the chloramine molecule, ammonia is the other 31%). So, with a possible 5.8 ppm chloramine, there is 4 ppm chlorine, and 1.8 ppm ammonia. At the extreme 4 ppm level of chlorine in chloramine, a 1.5 standard dose of NovAqua Plus is recommended. Check with your local public water utility for the level of chlorine that they are adding to tap water.

NovAqua Plus buffers tap water. When tap water is used, it comes out of the tap greatly reduced in oxygen. When tap water that is low or devoid of oxygen comes in contact with the air, its pH fluctuates rapidly while it is picking up oxygen and carbon dioxide. If tap water is added directly to the aquarium in which fishes and aquatic invertebrates are living, the fluctuations in pH can be very stressful, and may be lethal. NovAqua Plus contains a high capacity buffering system that stops pH fluctuations in the water, stabilizes acidity/alkalinity to avoid pH shock, and allows fish to adapt safely to new environments. When the pH is balanced by NovAqua Plus, the water will be at its natural pH level, whatever that is. when the pH needs to be balanced, such as a pH of 7.0 for fresh water (neutral pH), or 8.2-8.3 for salt water, the use of Kordon pH Protector products are recommended.

NovAqua Plus detoxifies heavy metals that can be toxic to many aquatic organisms.
  • NovAqua Plus detoxifies heavy metals that can be toxic to many aquatic organisms. Toxic metal ions in water can come from various sources, including public water utilities, home and commercial plumbing, medications, decorations and metal objects placed in the aquarium or pond, well water, etc. It is essential to detoxify heavy metals in the water supply for the fish to survive. The detoxifying capability of NovAqua Plus precipitates the metal ions into harmless compounds, rather than chelating them. NovAqua Plus forms a unique insoluble, polymeric salt with heavy metals that is stable under conditions of both high and low pH. This is a notable advantage over other products that rely strictly upon the chelation process. Such chelates are unstable, pH dependent, and can exchange their "bound" metal ion for another, releasing toxic ions into the water.
  • While tap water is acceptable to us and to pet animals (such as mammals -- dogs cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, etc. -- and birds) as well as to farm animals, tap water varying in extent from source to source is toxic to fishes and other aquatic life. This is particularly true for the heavy metals that it contains from the metal and plastic pipes that it goes through before it reaches you. One of the important functions of NovAqua Plus is to eliminate -- or at least greatly reduce -- heavy metals in the water.
  • One of the most toxic of heavy metals to fishes is copper, a common ingredient in tap water. NovAqua Plus is capable per dose of precipitating up to 1.17 ppm free copper ions (Cu++) from solution. When copper is present in the tap water or when copper medications are used, the copper ions can combine with glass, plastic, rock, gravel, and other objects and remain indefinitely in this state. Variations in pH (acidity/alkalinity) may cause the copper to come back into solution and be toxic to fishes and invertebrates. NovAqua Plus permanently detoxifies copper and can be used to eliminate copper ion medications after their use as a treatment is completed.
    NovAqua Plus increases available electrolytes.
  • Certain kinds and levels of electrolytes are necessary in the water for fishes and aquatic invertebrates to breathe through their gills. NovAqua Plus contains these elements (cations and anions) in the amounts that fishes and aquatic invertebrates require.
  • Marine fishes and invertebrates obtain their required ions by "drinking seawater". However, freshwater fishes and invertebrates do not have this capability. Freshwater fishes selectively remove required ions from water via the gills. The need for certain ions is increased during times of stress. NovAqua Plus provides the electrolytes needed during periods of damage and shock in freshwater fishes. Also, NovAqua Plus allows the use of bottled drinking water for aquarium use, that otherwise would be too deficient in ionic mineral content for the fishes and aquatic invertebrates to survive satisfactorily. NovAqua Plus should be used when using RO (Reverse Osmosis) water, because efficient RO systems take out too much of the mineral/electrolyte content of the water for fish and invertebrates to remain healthy.

NovAqua Plus provides beneficial organic herbals and vitamins. A unique new function of NovAqua Plus is in its use of herbals and vitamins. More and more is becoming known in scientific aquaculture about the value of specific soluble herbals and vitamins for improving the health and immunity of fishes and invertebrates. Kordon is now applying this knowledge in aquarium and pond keeping.

NovAqua Plus contains herbals and vitamins that are soluble in water and absorbed by fishes and invertebrates; these have been recently accepted to be effective for their health and immunity.
  • For examples, the vitamins used in NovAqua Plus are capable of boosting disease-resisting immune functions, healing open wounds and sores, slowing the spread of infection, and promoting cellular regeneration such as in the formation of blood cells, etc. Echinaceas are in NovAqua Plus for improving phagocytosis and as immune stimulators to help the fishes and invertebrates rid themselves of microbial infections both viral and bacteria, as well as tumors.

NovAqua Plus enhances biofiltration in new aquariums and ponds. It does this by coating the filter media with a slime coat that aids nitrifying bacteria in forming colonies, and in being more effective in carrying out biological filtration.

NovAqua Plus reduces toxicity of nitrite. NovAqua Plus's special electrolytes help reduce the toxic effects of nitrite in the water by blocking the uptake of nitrite by the animal. For extensive removal of toxic nitrites in the water, use Kordon's AmQuel Plus.

NovAqua Plus removes iodine. When using iodine as a treatment, its effect can be reduced or eliminated by using NovAqua Plus. >NovAqua Plus works with all filters, aerators, and protein skimmers. There is no interference between NovAqua Plus and all types of filters, protein skimmers, and aerators.

* NovAqua Plus should be used when using well water or other natural water source, because they can vary greatly in quality, which is brought into proper balance for fishes and invertebrates by NovAqua Plus.

Tests aquarium salt level and specific gravity
Instant Ocean Hydrometer
Ideal for use in water temperatures from 68° to 85°. Fills slowly from the bottom to keep your hands dry. Specific gravity reads on the inside scale and salinity on the outside scale.
  • Easy-read 2-color Scale with Safe Zone
  • Improved no-wet-hands design
  • Extra Wide Stabilizer Base
  • Full Range Scale
  • Accurate to approx 0.0001

The Science of Specific Gravity

Specific gravity measures the relative amount of dissolved salts in your aquarium water compared to pure water at a given temperature. Specific gravity for most marine aquariums should be between 1.020 and 1.024.

Because salt remains behind when water evaporates from your tank, you will probably be using pure water to top off the tank. If you do it frequently, your specific gravity will not fluxuate wildly. However, if you wait too long, the salinity will be rising through evaporation and a large addition of water could drop the specific gravity too quickly for the health of the tank inhabitants.

It is a good idea to measure the specific gravity of your tank before and after each water change as well, taking care to match the new water to the old water in order not to "shock" the inhabitants of the tank with too large a deviation too quickly.

The Science of Specific Gravity

Specific gravity measures the relative amount of dissolved salts in your aquarium water compared to pure water at a given temperature. For a particular Salinity, specific gravity increases with decreasing water temperature and therefore, a S.G. measurement is only meaningful if the temperature is also known.

It is essential to maintain the correct salinity in a saltwater aquarium because of the fine balance between the concentration of salts in a fishes body tissue, compared with that in the surrounding water. If the salinity of the water is outside the range of naturally occurring salinities, then fish and invertebrates will experience osmotic stress as they try to adjust. Osmotic stress can lead to death.

The most problematic salinity variation is the gradual increase of Salinity due to evaporation. Constant and accurate measurements are essential.

Removes Nitrates and prolongs the time allowed between water changes by keeping nitrates low!
Kent Marine Nitrate Sponge

Kent Marine Nitrate Sponge is a granular zeolitic medium which works by two methods.

  1. It slowly directly adsorbs small amounts of ammonia that are released by fish and natural processes, and
  2. it fosters anaerobic bacterial denitrification due to its physical porous structure.

This denitrification slowly reduces nitrate levels in the aquarium. It also works well in freshwater tanks or tap water to remove toxic ammonia directly!

Considerations for use: Nitrates are best brought down initially with large water changes with a low nitrate salt, such as Kent Sea Salt. Deionization or reverse osmosis filtration of tap water nitrates will also help if your tap water contains significant levels of nitrates. Each treatment of Nitrate Sponge will reduce nitrates by about 20 ppm (total nitrates) for the stated size. Not overfeeding the tank, good maintenance practices, regularly vacuuming of detritus, regular use of Kent Marine Reef Carbon, and regular changing of filter floss are critical to nitrate control and water changes are absolutely necessary! Products which contain gluconates, other sugars and heavy organic chemicals should be avoided since they will foster undesirable growth of cyanobacteria.

Phosphates and silicates are also nutrients or fertilizers which, given proper lighting and other nutrients, will promote rapid growth of undesirable algae, diatoms and cyanobacteria also. Kent Marine Phosphate Sponge can be used simultaneously with the Nitrate Sponge to lower the levels of these fertilizers and help reduce growth of these unsightly nuisances.

Anaerobic Denitrator: If you have a bad nitrate problem, consider purchasing a filter housing in which to place the Nitrate Sponge. Fill this housing with aquarium water and let stand totally closed, with no water movement for 3 weeks. This will give the bacteria time to multiply and populate the Nitrate Sponge. Tap your main pressure line from your aquarium pump with small airline tubing and a small air valve. Adjust the valve to allow one drop per second to flow out of the filter back into your sump. This unit requires no feeding and therefore cannot produce deadly hydrogen sulfide gas as other systems might.

PROCLEAR MARINE Cloudy Water Controller and Clarifier produces and maintains crystal clear aquarium water without affecting pH.
Kent Marine Proclear Marine Clarifier

Kent Pro Clear is completely safe for all marine fish and invertebrates. Pro Clear uses a blend of high tech polymers that will safely flocculate any algae, dirt, bacteria or other cloudy water causing particles. Contains no phosphates, nitrates, or silicates to cause undesirable algae or slime growths. Not an algaecide. 100% biodegradable.

Precautions: Do not use on freshwater systems.

  • Produces & maintains crystal clear water
  • Clears unsightly cloudy, milky water
  • Aids filtration & reduces parasite numbers!
  • Safe for all species of marine fish & invertebrates
  • Contains no algaecides, phosphates, nitrates, or silicates
  • 8oz treats 2400gal

Considerations for Use:
For best results, use a fine filter floss or pad filter and force water through it. Dirt, cloudiness causing particles and algae will collect on this filter and can be discarded.

If the tank is extremely cloudy, you can double the dose. Do not use more than two doses per week.

If the tank is heavily loaded with fish and plants and has not had proper water changes, use Kent Poly Ox first, to lower the organic loading in the system. Then, wait one day before using this product.

Directions:
Dilute one drop per gallon of aquarium capacity or one teaspoon (capful or 5 ml) per 50 gallons (190 liters) of aquarium capacity in cup of water and evenly disperse around the aquarium. Precipitated particles should be removed by a properly working mechanical filter and fine filtering medium, such as filter floss, or siphoned out. Allow 8 hours before siphoning. Repeat in 24 hours, if necessary.

Kent Marine Phosphate Sponge is not an algaecide, but a ceramic medium which will adsorb phosphates quickly (within hours) when placed directly in the water flow.
Kent Marine Phosphate Sponge

Works in fresh and saltwater aquariums or ponds to bring about 1.0 ppm of phosphate or silicates down to less than .05 ppm in a 120 gallon tank for every dry quart of medium.

For silicate to be removed, phosphates must first be removed. Beads are cracked to expose more surface area and increase efficiency! This product will not release soluble aluminum compounds into your aquarium, causing negative reactions from your inverts Will also absorb moisture for use as an air dryer for ozone, and can be renewed over and over in moisture removal service!

  • Removes Phosphates & Silicates
  • Helps reduce hair algae, diatoms, cyanobacteria and other unsightly, undesirable algae growth
  • Highly effient!
  • 1qt treats a 120gal tank

Considerations for Use: Phosphates and silicates are nutrients or fertilizers which, given proper lighting and other nutrients, will promote rapid growth of undesirable algae, diatoms and cyanobacteria. When used as directed, Phosphate Sponge will lower the levels of these fertilizers to help reduce growth of these unsightly nuisances. Successive replacement of charges of Phosphate Sponge may encourage a die off of hair algae!

Renewal: For phosphate removal, renewal may or may not be possible, depending on conditions of use. At best, product may be renewed two times, depending on circumstances of use, and capacity will be much lower each time. To renew, spread 1/4" thick on a baking pan. Place in a 450 degree oven for one hour. Let cool. Rinse with fresh water and re-use. When reusing, leave for 8 hours, maximum. Do not use pan for food.

Directions:
Rinse with fresh water (preferably reverse osmosis or deionized water) WARNING: PRODUCT MAY GET VERY HOT THE FIRST TIME IT IS WET! Use rubber gloves and/or place in a plastic container while rinsing! Place in a large mesh bag (300-800 micron) or a canister filter, directly in the water flow. Make sure water flows through the material and not just around it. Leave for 8 hours to 2 days maximum (as with any phosphate adsorber, phosphates can be re-released into the system if initial charge is left in the system continuously. If you want to leave in the system to keep phosphates low or to remove silicates, replace initial charge with brand new, and change on a regular basis.) For silicate removal, phosphate must first be removed, then a new charge of Phosphate Sponge must be left in the system for several days.

REEF CARBON removes organic pollutants, stains, and entrained toxic gases in marine and freshwater aquariums or ponds.
Kent Marine Reef Carbon

Contains the finest pelletized activated bituminous coal based carbon. Out performs any carbon especially coconut shell!

  • Low Ash -- suitable for sensitive species such as Discus
  • Large pore size
  • Highly activated -- Economical -- use less for same results
  • Will not release phosphates nor promote undesirable algae growth
  • Will not clog easily
  • 1qt treats 400gal

Directions:
Reef Carbon is dusty. This is a necessary characteristic of the finest carbons and is a small price to pay for a carbon that is so active, low in phosphates, and ash, so rinse well in cold running tap water. This will take some effort. IN THE AQUARIUM: Place in a polyester bag or filter chamber and position for maximum water flow through the carbon. IMPORTANT: You can use as any other carbon, but best results will be obtained by using any carbon for only 3 days per month or so. (This is because any carbon will continue to remove trace elements long after it is totally plugged with organics.) Use only enough to remove the color from the water.
