Replaces biologically important trace minerals.
A F Cichlid, Rift Lake Elements

These vital minerals are used by fish and plants and removed through filtration in African Cichlid and other Rift Lake fish tanks. This is the most complete product on the market for Africans, nothing like it exists anywhere! You will see vibrant colors like never before! Also will benefit most American Cichlids whose native waters are hard and have a pH above 7.8! Free of polluting nitrates, phosphates, and organic chemicals!

Considerations for use:

  1. First use A F CICHLID CHEMISTRY (a dry powder) to provide basic water chemistry and all trace minerals to African Cichlids and other Rift Lake fishes, for new systems and each time you change your water. It is recommended that you refer to reference material for the fish you are keeping to determine water quality parameters, but, a general guide is provided on the A F Cichlid Chemistry label. For optimum results, use water prepared by reverse osmosis, however dechlorinated tap water will work.
  2. Next use A F CICHLID BUFFER, specially formulated pH buffer and alkalinity adjusting system designed for African Cichlids and other rift lake fishes, to adjust the alkalinity. Refer to reference material for the proper value, but a general guide is 175 to 225 ppm or 10o to 12o dKH (German degrees of hardness). The buffer also works well for other cichlids from hard alkaline waters (above 7.8 pH).
  3. Test the pH. If it is low, then raise it with Kent pH CONTROL PLUS to the proper value for the type of fish you are keeping. A general guide is given on the A F Cichlid Buffer label..
  4. Use reverse osmosis water for topping off for evaporation. (Tap water can be used, but will increase total dissolved solids!)
  5. Use this product (Rift Lake Trace Elements) weekly to maintain trace mineral levels which will be depleted by fish and plants and by carbon, resin, and pad filtration.

Directions: Add one teaspoon (1 capful or 5 ml) per 30 gallons (120 liters) of tank capacity every week. Also add immediately after carbon use. For best results use with Kent A F Cichlid Chemistry, and A F Cichlid Buffer.

Contents: Inorganic mineral salts of aluminum, boron, bromine, calcium, chromium, cobalt, copper, iodine, iron, lithium, magnesium, manganese, molybdenum, nickel, potassium, selenium, sulfur, strontium, tin, and vanadium in a base containing deionized water and EDTA.

Kent Coral-Vite is the premium hard & soft coral vitamin & mineral supplement.
Kent Marine Coral-vite

It provides exotic trace minerals and complex nutrients for health and vigor and to stimulate growth in corals, anemones, gorgonians, and desirable marine algae. It contains no detrimental heavy metals, gluconates or other sugars, phosphates, nitrates, or silicates. Coral-Vite does not promote undesirable algae growth. Our goal is to provide SLR or Sustained Long-term Results. To this end, Coral-Vite makes the lightest possible use of EDTA and preservatives. These ingredients are necessary, however, to make sure you get a fresh, potent product.

  • Hard & soft coral vitamin and mineral supplement
  • Designed For Miniature Reef Marine Aquariums
  • Phosphate, Nitrate & Silicate Free
  • Contains no gluconates, or other sugars!
  • 8oz treats up to 2400gal

Considerations for use: For optimum results, use water prepared by reverse osmosis (particularly in mini-reefs). However, tap water treated with Chlorinex or Ammonia Detox will work.

Kent Coral-Vite will supply needed rubidium, lithium, barium and other important minerals as well as essential vitamins to the reef. Coral-Vite and Essential Elements are designed to work together in a reef environment.

Although Coral-Vite contains strontium and calcium, you should use separate additives for these to achieve a synergistic effect. Tanks with large numbers of soft corals, crustaceans or macro algae will require the Concentrated Iodine or Iron supplements as well. Use Kent Kalkwasser Mix, Concentrated Liquid Calcium, or Turbo-Calcium to supply needed calcium. Use Strontium and Molybdenum or Turbo-Strontium to provide heavy amounts of strontium.

Note: Live corals also require strong lighting, with proper spectrum and immaculately clean systems. Regular water changes are encouraged. Coral-Vite is safe for use with or without ozone and will provide excellent results in either case. More frequent addition may be required due to ozone use.

Directions: Add 1 to 2 teaspoons per 50 gallons of tank capacity every week depending on animal load (1 capful, or 5 ml = 1 teaspoon). Do not dose from the same container as Kalkwasser, but use simultaneously and add directly to tank or sump. Complements Kent Marine Essential Elements.

Removes Nitrates and prolongs the time allowed between water changes by keeping nitrates low!
Kent Marine Nitrate Sponge

Kent Marine Nitrate Sponge is a granular zeolitic medium which works by two methods.

  1. It slowly directly adsorbs small amounts of ammonia that are released by fish and natural processes, and
  2. it fosters anaerobic bacterial denitrification due to its physical porous structure.

This denitrification slowly reduces nitrate levels in the aquarium. It also works well in freshwater tanks or tap water to remove toxic ammonia directly!

Considerations for use: Nitrates are best brought down initially with large water changes with a low nitrate salt, such as Kent Sea Salt. Deionization or reverse osmosis filtration of tap water nitrates will also help if your tap water contains significant levels of nitrates. Each treatment of Nitrate Sponge will reduce nitrates by about 20 ppm (total nitrates) for the stated size. Not overfeeding the tank, good maintenance practices, regularly vacuuming of detritus, regular use of Kent Marine Reef Carbon, and regular changing of filter floss are critical to nitrate control and water changes are absolutely necessary! Products which contain gluconates, other sugars and heavy organic chemicals should be avoided since they will foster undesirable growth of cyanobacteria.

Phosphates and silicates are also nutrients or fertilizers which, given proper lighting and other nutrients, will promote rapid growth of undesirable algae, diatoms and cyanobacteria also. Kent Marine Phosphate Sponge can be used simultaneously with the Nitrate Sponge to lower the levels of these fertilizers and help reduce growth of these unsightly nuisances.

Anaerobic Denitrator: If you have a bad nitrate problem, consider purchasing a filter housing in which to place the Nitrate Sponge. Fill this housing with aquarium water and let stand totally closed, with no water movement for 3 weeks. This will give the bacteria time to multiply and populate the Nitrate Sponge. Tap your main pressure line from your aquarium pump with small airline tubing and a small air valve. Adjust the valve to allow one drop per second to flow out of the filter back into your sump. This unit requires no feeding and therefore cannot produce deadly hydrogen sulfide gas as other systems might.
